People are proud of their Battalion Ancestors. We enjoyed meeting many of you today at the Battalion Booth at RootsTech.
There was “something for everyone” and thank you for all who stopped by. It was fun to watch people pouring over the list of battalion members and then see their eyes light up when they spotted “their” ancestor’s name. Everyone was delighted to hear they could get a copy of “their” ancestor’s life sketch thanks to Mary Ann Kirk’s research efforts.
Some were interested in seeing the 1846 gear on display – backpack, knife, flint and steel fire starter and Book of Mormon first edition. Michael E. Anderson’s The Mormon Battalion, Mexican War Volunteers book was there for people to leaf through and get a better understanding of what gear the Battalion used and how they dressed. Some of the younger set were interested in the Battalion Trek Podcast to learn more details about how the original Battalion Documents were found in the National Archives, what we were able to learn from them, how that information was changing the story, and how people could access them today. It was so great to be able to point to Laura Anderson and say, “This is the woman who found them!” (I really am in awe of Laura and her document discovery prowess!)
