The Tiltin' Hilton - aka Our Wagon

April 14, 2025

We decided to try out our “gear and wagon” this week so there wouldn’t be any surprises once we get to Pueblo. We’d put the trailer in the driveway but didn’t have it leveled – hence we dubbed it the Tiltin’ Hilton. We had started to put a few items in the cupboards, and made up the bed but it’s still too cold so there was no running water yet. Kevin thinks he’ll un-winterize or de-winterize it (which is it?) this next week – but he’ll keep his eye on the weather reports. Did I mention we’re not trailer/equipment people?

Two things we decided we must test was the outdoor camp stove and the bed. We expect to use the stove a lot. The first time Kevin lay down on the bed his feet hung off about 8 inches! That was a concern. The other thing we keep hearing is “Make sure you have a good mattress!!!” So, we tested both things.

As we were sitting in the trailer, our grandson Trent, knocked on the door and was impressed there was a small TV. We tried to explain it wasn’t a top priority and didn’t think we’d have any time to watch it but we asked, “Would you like to be the first one to use it and see if you can get it to work?” He got enthusiastic about that. I ran to get some DVD’s and the end result was positive. So, now we have three things tested.

I’m sorry I didn’t take any pictures. You would have laughed at us – cooking with our little goodwill frying pan on our outside stove, heating up a small bowl of mixed vegetables in the microwave (oh- a fourth thing we tested), and then sitting at the table eating our pork loin, tossed salad, and watching the movie “The Runaway Jury.” I can honestly say it was a lovely evening and a nice break. My sister had told me she and her husband had gone out to their trailer parked in their yard to watch movies. I thought it sounded funny but now I can see why they did it. It’s fun!

Then we climbed in our bed. Happy News! If Kevin puts his head touching the wall where his pillow is, his feet are right at the bottom edge of the bed. I was afraid since it was the Tiltin’ Hilton, we would have the blood rush to our heads during the night but alas – here I am telling you the tale so all is well.

That’s as much testing as I think we’ll be able to do since we’ll be at the OCTA Conference in Salt Lake all next weekend. We certainly don’t have time this Saturday to go camping – so we’ll trust the RV inspector did his job and set out early Tuesday morning April 22.
